Local legends: Do you know your friendly neighbourhood Domino’s?

There’s an assumption that you can’t be both a global business and a local community member.  Though Domino’s is the largest pizza restaurant chain in Australia and New Zealand, we operate on a franchising model, which means our stores are essentially small businesses, operated by local families from within the communities they serve.

At Domino’s, we’re proud to be a global company. But more than anything else, we’re proud to be an active member in hundreds of local communities across the world.

Meet James

Domino’s Rockhampton and Yeppoon franchisee, James Dooley is so passionate about bringing the community together with pizza that he decided to write a letter to customers. Enter one of James’ stores and you will find the letter introducing himself and offering sponsorship opportunities hanging proudly on the wall next to a photo of James and his family.

“We do a fair bit of community sponsorship and fundraising, but we still get people thinking we are just a big corporate company,” James said when asked what motivated him to include the community message in his stores.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the number of positive comments from people since I put them up.”

The most common way Domino’s franchisees like James give back to their community is by holding a “Doughraiser”, where a portion from every pizza sold on an allocated day is donated to a community group or local family that needs support.

Each year, hundreds of stores participate in Doughraisers across Australia and New Zealand, raising much-needed funds for a variety of community causes.

Meet Stephen

Domino’s Kallangur franchisee Stephen Moodie harnessed the power of community spirit when he organised a multi-store Doughraiser in October 2019 for a local boy born without ears.

“To my surprise, almost every franchisee in north Brisbane wanted to be involved!” Stephen said.

“Knowing how much money the family needed for the surgery, we wanted to help more than just a few hundred dollars.”

And that they did. With Domino’s Australia and New Zealand CEO Nick Knight offering to match the funds raised by the participating stores, the ‘Help Hudson Hear’ Doughraiser raised a total of $14,000 for the young boy’s surgery.

Franchisees like James and Stephen demonstrate that despite the size of our business, we’re still very much a part of the local community.

Domino’s is on a mission to connect local communities through the world’s best bonding food; pizza. Because we believe pizza brings people closer.
