BE TRANSPORTED TO NEW YORK WITH THESE FIVE ICONIC MOVIE AND PIZZA PAIRINGS
Ah, New York.
Not short on iconic attractions, the city that never sleeps is The Big Apple of our eye for one reason and one reason only… its pizza.
While it’s going to be a little while before we can play tourist in America’s most populated city again, who says we can’t bring that classic New York taste here?
Inspired by the iconic New York pizza scene, over the past nine months our product development team have been working hard to take our New Yorker pizza range to the next level.
The result: a truly authentic, and even tastier, New Yorker.
Featuring large, American-style pepperoni, a new, sweeter marinara pizza sauce made from Italian-variety tomatoes, and an improved dough recipe that boasts a thinner base and a light and fluffy crust, this pizza was designed to give you a taste of New York without having to travel!
So, as self-isolation binge-watching continues, allow us to present to you the guide you never knew you needed – five of the most iconic New York-centric TV shows and movies to binge, and which new and improved Domino’s New Yorker pizza to pair them with, to successfully transport yourself to the bustling streets of New York city!
Friends (1994-2004)
As one of the most popular sitcoms in TV history, it should come as no surprise that this 90s TV series, set in iconic Manhattan, makes the top of our essential-viewing list.
We don’t usually like to pick favourites, but it goes without saying that the perpetually hungry Joey Tribbiani is our pizza hero.
Joey has plenty of one liners, but it’s the season eight episode, The One With Ross’s Step Forward, when Joey chides Rachel for ending a phone call mid order to a local pizzeria that we can’t go past.
We’ll be there for you, Joey.
In honour of Joey’s Italian heritage, we recommend binging your favourite Friends episodes over a Big Three Meats New Yorker pizza, featuring pepperoni, ground beef and Italian sausage.
Gossip Girl (2007-2012)
Hey Upper East Siders.
Revealing a more exclusive side to Manhattan, this popular teen drama put sitting on the steps of the Met atop the bucket-list of every young woman under 25.
And let’s not forget the alternative allure of outer-borough Brooklyn, courtesy of its more creatively-driven residents in the Humphrey’s and Dan’s childhood friend Vanessa.
Pizza might be a little too bourgeoisie for Serena and Blair, but our girl Vanessa was speaking our language in season two when she announced her plans to order a double pepperoni pizza at none other than Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn.
So, of course it stands to reason that the best way to re-watch classic episodes of Gossip Girl is with The Big Pepperoni pizza in true Vanessa style!
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Gossip Girl wasn’t the first time we saw New York’s glamourous socialite scene play out on our screens.
Who can go past the timeless Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
Holly Golightly is all of us as she gazes longingly into the luxurious jeweller’s shopfront while almost mindlessly munching on a croissant.
If you’re looking for the perfect pizza to eat your feelings to as Fred finds Holly looking for Cat in the dark and rainy alleyways of New York, we recommend The Big Ham and Pineapple. Just like Fred and Holly, the sweetness of the pineapple combined with the sour flavour of the tomato sauce base create an unlikely, yet perfect, match.
Night at the Museum (2006)
With no signs of international travel restrictions lifting any time soon (sigh), why not let rookie night security guard Larry Daley show you around New York’s incredible Museum of Natural History in this epic family film.
A talent-packed cast, including Ben Stiller, Own Wilson, Robin Williams, Paul Rudd, Rami Malek, Ricky Gervais and Carla Gugino, bring some of the most iconic individuals from human history to life (literally), as the museum descends into comical mayhem.
We’re sure a delicious slice of pizza would have sufficed, Dum Dum.
A cheesy movie calls for a cheesy pizza, and that’s why you should pair this essential viewing of Night at the Museum with The Big Cheese New Yorker.
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Lauded as the most famous bite of pizza ever, John Travolta’s Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever is the pizza icon we never knew we needed.
In the opening credits, we watch Tony order two slices from Lenny’s Pizza in Brooklyn (a real pizzeria you can still visit today) before placing one slice of pizza on top of the other and taking a bite, like it’s just your average Tuesday.
We’d watch Travolta strut the streets of NYC in flares and an open collared shirt any day.
This man is obviously a pizza connoisseur who doesn’t skimp on his pizza order. That’s why The Big Pepperoni, Sausage and Mushroom is the recommended pizza pairing for this ISO viewing.
So sit back, relax, and let us bring New York to you.
