Australia’s largest pizza maker, Domino’s has announced all of its Queensland stores will band together to raise much-needed dough in a state-wide Doughraiser on Wednesday 13 February, donating $1 from every pizza sold.

All funds raised during the Doughraiser will be donated to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund, which supports Red Cross’ work in domestic emergencies.

Domino’s CEO Australia and New Zealand Nick Knight said, “Our fellow Queenslanders in North Queensland are doing it really tough right now and we want to throw our full support behind them now by raising vital funds for the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund,” Mr Knight said.

“In the past few days, when it was safe to do so, teams from our eight Domino’s Townsville stores delivered more than 1,100 pizzas to emergency workers, including Army and evacuation centres across North Queensland, making sure people had hot meals and helping to keep spirits up.

“The people of North Queensland are not only our valued customers, they are the people who work in our stores and who are part of the community. In true Domino’s spirit, team members rallied together to do their bit and this Doughraiser is an extension of this.

“Red Cross has trained emergency services personnel on the ground for floods in Townsville, as well as having responded to fires in Tasmania and Victoria in recent days,” Australian Red Cross-national emergency services manager Andrew Coghlan said.

“Over the past days in Townsville alone, we have been supporting people arriving at evacuation centres and recovery hubs,” he said. “Our care for people who are experiencing a stressful time in disasters like this is important in ensuring they have the help, advice and referrals they need to start their recovery.”

Domino’s confirmed its own registered charity, Give for Good would also match money raised through the Doughraiser to the value of $25,000.

Mr Knight said rural communities are a key focus of the Domino’s charity, Give for Good and disaster relief.

“Domino’s is first and foremost a food business and the rural communities of Australia are key enablers of our high-quality food supply chain. But we want to do more to help north Queensland communities as this difficult time by matching our Queensland customer donations,” he said.

“Getting in and feeding people in times of need is something we can do to help when the times are really challenging like we are currently seeing in North Queensland. We look forward to throwing our support behind Red Cross’ national emergency service work and raising as much as we can.”
