Domino's Ellenbrook raising “dough” for local teen in need of new wheelchair

Domino’s Ellenbrook is holding a ‘Doughraiser’ this Friday 24 July, donating $2 from every pizza sold to support local teenager, Emma, who suffers from a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) – Type 3.

The team is aiming to raise more than $8,000 for the purchase of a new wheelchair and intensive therapy to reduce Emma’s pain and improve her quality of life.

After seeing a post in a local community Facebook group by Emma’s parents about her condition, local Domino’s Ellenbrook franchisee Alex Mohibi said he knew the team had to help.

“Reading Emma’s story absolutely broke my heart,” he said.

“To be physically fit and running around doing all of your favourite things – in Emma’s case, things like ballet, swimming, and going on walks – at 14-years-old, to being wheelchair bound just three short years later and unable to walk is something no one should have to go through.

“I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to live with a genetic illness that affects your joints so much it makes it hard to walk, let alone be 17-years-old and living with such an illness.

“Despite this, Emma is a loving, caring person who is dedicated to giving back to others by advocating for other children with EDS and Hypermobility, and even sitting on the Youth Advisory Panel at the Perth Children’s Hospital.

“She is a true inspiration, not just to me, but to my entire team and many others in the Ellenbrook community.”

Diagnosed with EDS and Hypermobility by doctors in 2018, Emma said that funds raised will help secure access to intensive physical therapy that will strengthen her joints.

“Doing intensive therapy is so important to me – it will help to improve my quality of life because it helps with my pain levels,” she said.

“Not only this, physical therapy helps make my joints more stable and builds up my tolerance to walk more since I use a wheelchair.”

Mr Mohibi is passionate about giving back to those in his local community.

“These challenging times have taught us just how important it is to look out for one another, and to support those in your local community,” he said.

“The team at Domino’s Ellenbrook are committed to supporting Emma and helping her get the new wheelchair she needs to improve her day-to-day life.

“We encourage all of our customers to come down this Friday and enjoy a slice of their favourite pizza to help support Emma and her family.”

The Doughraiser for Emma will be held at Domino’s Ellenbrook on Friday, 24 July from 11am – 11pm, with $2 from every pizza sold donated to Emma and her family.
