It’s official… Pizza lovers visit Domino’s to get the pepp in their step!

Pepperoni is the most popular pizza in Australia, with Domino’s stores across the country delivering an average of 40,500 Pepperoni pizzas to hungry Aussies every day.

In recognition of National Pepperoni Pizza Day this Sunday 20 September, Domino’s has revealed the top suburbs in Australia that order the most pepperoni pizza.

In the past 12 months, Domino’s Fairfield Heights in Sydney has delivered the most Pepperoni pizzas, while Domino’s Palmerston in the Northern Territory has the most locals pining for that authentic New York taste, selling more New Yorker range Pepperoni pizzas than any other Domino’s store.

Domino’s Australia and New Zealand CEO Nick Knight, a pepperoni pizza lover himself, said he isn’t surprised by the enduring popularity of the pepperoni pizza.

“Domino’s has introduced a variety of flavoursome pizzas to the menu over the years, but nothing has ever come close to outshining this universally adored classic.

“To give you an indication of how much Aussies love pepperoni on their pizza, our stores use around 1,407 metric tonnes of pepperoni a year – that’s 27,000 kilograms a week!” he said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted many joys we once took for granted, but we count ourselves lucky that we can still enjoy our favourite slice.

“Even during lockdown restrictions we’ve seen the power a Pepperoni pizza has to bring people together – whether it’s shared between household members or enjoyed virtually over a video call with friends.”

Over the years, pepperoni on pizza has only continued to grow in popularity, its salty and slightly sweet flavour profile complimenting the traditional tomato sauce and cheese combination of a typical pizza.

Even some of the most devout vegetarians can’t deny the distinct, mouth-watering aroma of a pepperoni pizza slice.

To share the joy of pepperoni with vegetarian pizza lovers, Domino’s became the first pizza chain in Australia to introduce a limited time only plant-based pepperoni to the menu in 2019, giving more customers a chance to enjoy the dough-licious taste sensation.

In recognition of a pizza so iconic it has its own national day of celebration, Domino’s is encouraging Aussie pizza lovers to put some ‘pepp’ in their step (or stomach to be exact!).
