If you thought there was no way to bridge the divide between passionate Blues and Mighty Maroons supporters, then think again! Origin fans across Australia are being brought together thanks to one highly-debated pizza topping: pineapple.

During State of Origin Game 1, pineapple was the most popular topping footy lovers added to their pizza. That’s almost as controversial as some of the penalties we saw in Game 1!

In fact, pineapple was so popular, it was added 1,924 times to pizzas across Queensland and New South Wales!

More than 350,000 Domino’s pizzas were enjoyed by footy fans during Game 1, and it’s pineapple we can thank for giving Origin supporters a reason to put aside their differences – even if just for a slice or two!

Whether you’re a passionate pineapple supporter or prefer your pizza ‘fruit free’, Domino’s ANZ CEO Nick Knight said stores will be bringing their ‘A’ game during the second game of the Origin series.

“During State of Origin Game 1, we delivered more than 350,000 pizzas to homes across Australia in an average of 25 minutes or less!

“Additionally, our Delivery Experts travelled a collective 323,000 kilometres during Game 1 – which is the same distance as three million NRL fields!

“While these are some big numbers, our focus is on being slow where it matters in making every pizza right, and fast where it counts in hustling them out the door, while ensuring safety is at the forefront of all we do, both in store and while we’re on the roads making deliveries.

“At Domino’s, we believe pizza is the perfect sharing food, because there’s something for everyone – and the fact that so many Origin supporters choose to add pineapple to their pizza proves it’s a food that brings people together.

Ahead of the second game in this year’s State of Origin series on Sunday 27 June, customers are encouraged to pre-order online to ensure their pizzas arrive before kick-off, and they don’t miss a moment of the action.
