Domino’s encourages footy fans to ‘break bread’ for Origin

The annual Origin series is back again in 2022 to divide footy fans across Australia – but we’ll be damned if it divides pizza lovers too!

This year, Domino’s is encouraging NRL fans from Queensland and New South Wales to come together ahead of the game on Wednesday 8 June in the name of FREE pizza*.

So, how exactly will maroon and blue fans be breaking bread this week?

Decorated half blue and half maroon, popular stores Domino’s Toowong (Queensland) and Domino’s Five Dock (New South Wales) will be giving away a FREE* Pepperoni Pizza to the first 100 footy fans who arrive with a mate between 3:00pm and 5:00pm sporting the rival team’s jersey.

Each pair will score a FREE* pizza to break bread, or share a slice, to celebrate Origin Game One.

The ‘Store of Two Sides’ was created to bring pizza lovers together on one of the biggest nights in both the NRL and Domino’s calendar.

Domino’s ANZ CEO David Burness said that while rivalries tend to heat up during Origin, Domino’s is encouraging footy fans to set aside their differences.

“At Domino’s, we know that our pizza brings people closer. That is why our “Store of Two Sides” has been created, to bridge the gap between maroon and blue supporters,” said Mr Burness.

“Flying the maroon flag? Simply bring a mate who supports the Blues to either Domino’s Toowong or Domino’s Five Dock for your chance to score a free Pepperoni Pizza to share (or vice versa). And those who prefer a vegetarian option will be gifted a Simply Cheese instead!

“To keep the spirit of unity alive, we’re encouraging customers to do the same; after all, state versus state doesn’t have to mean mate versus mate, especially when there is pizza involved!”

While State of Origin tends to divide footy fans across Australia, this Wednesday Domino’s team members across Australia will be uniting to ensure they can ‘make, bake and take’ more than 350,000 Hot & Fresh pizzas to hungry Aussies.

Team members are focused on bringing their ‘A’ game: being slow where it matters in making every pizza right, and fast where it counts in hustling them out the door, while keeping safety at the forefront, both in store and while out on the roads making deliveries.

Ahead of game one this Wednesday, 8 June 2022, customers are encouraged to pre-order online to ensure their pizzas arrive before kick-off, and they don’t miss a moment of the action.

While we can’t be sure which team will win, we can guarantee that both a victory and a loss are made better with pizza.
