Five things we need to rethink in 2021

2020 – the year everything changed.

Social distancing, self-isolating, lockdowns and mask mandates became part of our everyday language.

Our homes turned into our workplaces. Our classrooms. Our entire worlds.

Our frontline workers, the true heroes.

We learned how to put others before ourselves. And found new ways to come together.

It was a year no one could have predicted. A year that forced us to think differently about many aspects of our lives.

So, what have we learned? And what do we need to ‘rethink’ in 2021?

1. Diaries, calendars and planners

Every time you feel sad, just take a moment to remember all the people who bought a 2020 planner...

Let's face it, planning does not exist in 2021. There is no need to schedule your European summer holiday or annual trip to Bali – because it’s not happening! And with the opportunity to go into lockdown at any given moment due to an unexpected outbreak, planning anything in advance this year just seems… redundant.

If you ask us, we see no reason to commit to a planner moving forward. It’s time to rethink the need for planners, calendars and diaries in 2021 and instead stick to living in the (socially-distanced) moment!

2. Negatives can be positive…

Especially when you get a COVID test result.

But we’ve also discovered the positives of slowing down and focusing on what matters most.

In one way or another, COVID-19 has impacted everyone’s lives. But when you are forced to focus on the small things, like quality time spent with family and friends and the opportunity to explore your own backyard, you realise that’s still so much to be grateful for. Trip to the Maldives cancelled? How about a getaway to the Whitsunday’s – helping to boost domestic tourism and finding new, local hideouts? It’s a yes from us!

 3. Sharing is caring

Ok, yes – sharing is great, (we’ve all had this drummed into us since we were old enough to walk and talk) but this phrase needs some work. Especially in 2021!

By now, we all know that regular sanitising and social distancing is the most responsible thing to do. It’s also a no to sharing masks, food or space (that is, unless you are standing more than 1.5 metres apart).

In 2021, sharing is most definitely not caring – so let’s re-think this phrase, ok? I mean… who really wants to share their pizza anyway? Not us!

4. Weddings

Did you try to say “I dough” last year? Perhaps a loved one’s day was disrupted? The pandemic forced millions of couples to rethink their nuptials and shorten their guest lists to follow new, COVID-Safe practices. In fact, 2020 saw many couples swap their dream venues for the local registry office or postpone their plans altogether. Oh, and the term ‘micro-weddings’ became a thing, with many couples opting for a more intimate affair.

Without a doubt, we believe it’s time to rethink large, over the top weddings in 2021 and instead opt for smaller affairs, in smaller venues, with smaller crowds. After all, your love and devotion to each other is what really matters!

5. Deep Fried Chicken

Seriously, why does it have to be greasy? In fact, why does it have to be deep fried at all?

At Domino’s, we’re rethinkin’ chicken in 2021 to bring customers succulent, 100 per cent Australian chicken that has more flavour and less fryer! Because oily, deep fried chicken that leaves you feeling just as greasy is so last year…

Domino’s new Chicken range includes three new pizzas – Chicken Supreme, Buffalo Chicken and Chicken Fresco – as well as Boneless Chicken Tenders and Seasoned Chicken Wings.

And because our thinkin’ didn’t stop there, we’re also introducing a range of new sauces including Sweet & Sour, Smoky BBQ, Creamy Garlic Aioli, Spicy Sriracha the infamous Frank’s Red Hot™ sauce!

Feeling peckish?
