Domino’s celebrates one year of working with local wheat farmers, the Doolins

To celebrate a successful first year of working together, Domino’s Procurement team visited the Doolin family on their wheat farm in North Star yesterday.

As well as supplying other companies, the Doolins supply approximately 20% of the wheat used in Domino’s pizza bases across Australia.

Domino’s Group Chief Procurement Officer John Harney said the Company was proud to be working directly with the successful fourth-generation Australian farmers.

“The Doolins supply approximately 20% of the wheat used in all of our pizza bases across Australia and Domino’s is proud to be working directly with the inspiring Australian farming family to create delicious pizzas for our customers,” said Mr Harney.

The forward-thinking Doolins utilise the most up to date techniques and technology (including GPS and drones) to help plant, grow and harvest a successful crop, year after year.

The Doolin Family also supplies a portion of their wheat used to create Domino’s Garlic Breads through George Weston Food’s Australian Garlic Bread Company.

Angus Doolin, Owner and Manager of Doolin Farming said the Family is proud to be partnering with Domino’s.

“We have been working indirectly with Domino’s for a number of years now, supplying the wheat for their Garlic Breads, however it’s fantastic to be able to work directly with the successful Australian Company,” said Mr Doolin.

“Domino’s has a great reputation and it’s very rewarding to see that our produce is going to a good end user.

“I love what I do. I get to work outdoors alongside my family and team of hardworking staff; my office is my Toyota.

“Years of planning and preparation goes into farming, so come harvest time if we have a high yielding crop, it is particularly satisfying, it’s the cherry on top.

“My great grandfather purchased the original property in 1924 so we have been here for five generations now, that makes what we do pretty special.

“We are really lucky to live where we do because North Star is in the heart of the Golden Triangle. A little pocket which is renowned as one of the best wheat producing areas in Australia.

“The changes and advancements to the farming industry that have happened just in my lifetime are quite exciting.”

To continue to innovate, the Doolins provide a portion of their property to the Australian Grain Technologies, previously University of Sydney’s Grains Research Centre, for research and development of new wheat varieties. As recognition to their contribution to the industry, a wheat was also named after the Doolins, called Sunlin.

Domino’s customers can eat their piping hot pizzas, knowing they are supporting Australian farmers like the Doolins.
