The Joy of Connection in a Self-Isolating World

The Joy of Connection in a Self-Isolating World

At Domino’s, our purpose isn’t pizza.

Our hardworking teams don’t put on their cap and apron every day simply to serve you a tasty meal. While we won’t deny our love for a piping hot pizza, our true purpose is much greater than that.

At Domino’s, our purpose is to bring people closer and to help them experience the joy of connection through pizza.

And in a world of social distancing and self-isolation, maintaining human connection – from a safe physical distance – has never been so important.

Social connection is essential to human survival. People who frequently receive positive social support are more resilient, less likely to suffer from anxiety and depression and more likely to live longer, more fulfilled lives (or so we hear).

And it’s good news for those on the giving end of connection as well. People who show others positive support and meaningfully contribute to their communities are also rewarded with a greater sense of personal purpose and value.

For our teams, pizza is an avenue to connection. It’s our way of saying “thank you,” “happy birthday,” “congratulations,” or “we’re thinking of you.”

Domino’s helps people experience the joy of connection, and in return our team members gain a greater sense of purpose and belonging in their local communities. Your sense of connection leads to our sense to connection – you might even say it has a ‘Domino’s Effect’.

Together, apart.

Together, apart.

But some events call for greater support than just one slice of pizza can provide.

From combining forces to raise over $75,000 for flood affected communities in North Queensland, to feeding thousands of people forced to evacuate their homes due to devastating bushfires, Domino’s is no stranger to supporting local communities in their darkest hours.

Saying thank you to the frontline heroes of the Australian bushfire crisis.

Now, as we find ourselves in the midst of a global health pandemic – the likes of which we’ve never seen before – you can be sure your local Domino’s is doing everything in their power to keep you safe, connected and supported.

In partnership with Domino’s registered charity Give for Good, we’re donating tens of thousands of pizzas to frontline workers – letting them know just how much we value their hard work and dedication and support.

We implemented Zero Contact practices in every store across the country to let our customers know we take their safety seriously.

And we’re giving out hot meals to those who may have lost their jobs or are experiencing financial hardship to let them know we’re thinking of them and to give them one less thing to worry about.

It’s amazing what a kind gesture can achieve.

Domino’s isn’t about pizza. We’re about the way that pizza can make you feel.

And what is pizza if not the world’s best bonding food? Served in easy-to-share slices and available in almost any flavour combination you desire, pizza is the logical choice when it comes to connecting with friends, family, colleagues and communities over a hot meal.

We know a piping hot pizza can’t save the world, but it can certainly help us stay connected in these isolating times, and isn’t that the next best thing?
