DON’T KNOCK THE BROC: THE PIZZA TOPPING YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED

It may have once been your archenemy during dinner time growing up, however the miniature green tree that is broccoli is being rediscovered and championed for its versatility and many health benefits, including being high in vitamins C and A, folate, potassium and calcium.

While we might not go quite as far as those putting concentrated broccoli powder into their coffee or cereal (but hey, you do you!), there is one new way you need to try broccoli: on pizza, of course!

Supplied by Australian-owned producer PM Fresh, Domino’s crunchy broccoli is the latest addition to our Super Premium range of fresh, new ingredients!

During the winter season, PM Fresh sources broccoli from Windolf Farms in Gatton, a small town located in the Lockyer Valley region of inland southern Queensland. Owned and operated by Paul Windolf and his family, Windolf Farms have a long history in the production of fresh vegetables.

The farm was orginally founded by Henry Windolf in the 1930’s, and since then, has adopted a rich history of producing top quality vegetables. From potatoes to watermelon and cauliflower, the family have been growing broccoli since 1999!

 Windolf Farms stretches across the stunning Lockyer Valley, operating on more than 1,000 acres of pristine land.

“We’re proud to have such a storied history in producing great tasting fresh produce for Australians to enjoy,” says Mr Windolf.

“For our broccoli to now be available on not one, but two Domino’s pizzas is very exciting! We could never have imagined this when we began growing broccoli more than 20 years ago.”

A crop that thrives in the cooler seasons, broccoli is part of the same Cruciferae family as cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Mature broccoli plants range from 10 – 25 centimetres wide, usually with a dark green ‘flower head’, with both the stalk and head being edible. 

Described as a versatile vegetable with an ‘earthy’ flavour, broccoli is just one of many ingredients Domino’s is proud to source from local Australian farms and producers.

So, if broccoli makes you think of the sad, soggy, microwaved vegetable of your childhood (#metoo), then why not try it on something that couldn’t possibly taste bad.

After all… pizza brocs! 😉
