Domino’s set to sell 350 pizzas every minute this Origin
More than 700 Domino’s stores across Australia are gearing up for one of the busiest nights of year – preparing to make, bake and take an estimated 250,000 piping hot pizzas to hungry Aussies this Origin.
For those keeping ‘score’, that’s around 350 pizzas every minute set to be cut, boxed and safely hustled out the door to customers across the country.
A recent GPS Driver Tracker Survey revealed 69 per cent of pizza lovers are planning to stay home to watch the annual NRL clash this year, choosing to cheer on their team from the comfort of the couch.
Domino’s Australia and New Zealand CEO Nick Knight said the increase in people choosing to stay home, and subsequent increase in orders, would not compromise pizza quality or safety.
“Historically, Origin is one of the busiest nights of the year for our stores, with many customers choosing to share a slice of their favourite pizza with family and friends ahead of kick-off.
“Last year, Origin Game 1 was one of the busiest nights on record, with Domino’s Delivery Experts travelling more than 122,000 kilometres to deliver piping hot pizzas to hungry customers – which is the equivalent of travelling around Australia almost five times in one night!” Mr Knight said.
“In addition to phones ringing off the hook, a rotating oven full of piping hot pizzas and expertly managing perfectly timed deliveries, stores must also handle the rush of being almost two times busier than a typical Wednesday night.
“Despite these challenges, our teams continue to rise to the occasion every year, carefully preparing pizzas for customers in record time – demonstrating that it is possible to deliver freshly made pizzas without compromising food quality, value or safety.
“Every store will be turning on their ‘A Game’ on Wednesday – it’s about being slow where it matters in making every pizza right, and fast where it counts in hustling them out the door.”
Mr Knight said that now customers can split any large pizza for free, hundreds of Maroons and Blues supporters are expected to the come together in living rooms across Australia.
“At Domino’s, we believe pizza is the perfect sharing meal, because there’s something for everyone and more than enough to go around!
“But of course, sharing can be hard if you have different dietary or taste preferences… or even if you support opposing teams on Origin night,” Mr Knight said.
“This year save the arguing for offsides and knock ons. Now, you can both get exactly what you want with no extra charge to split a Domino’s Half ‘n’ Half pizza!
“If former rugby league Queensland Maroon footballer Nate Myles, and New South Wales Blues footballer Paul Gallen can overcome their seven year dispute and come together over a slice in our latest television commercial, then I’m sure even the biggest footy rivals can come together this Origin!”
Ahead of the State of Origin series opener this Wednesday 4 November, customers are encouraged to pre-order online to ensure pizzas arrive before kick-off, and they don’t miss a moment of the action.
Whoever takes out the win, one thing is for sure – many will be getting a slice of the Domino’s action!
