Domino’s Tugun donates more than 1,000 safe, hot meals to locals in ‘knead’
Local Domino’s Tugun franchisee Alyson Horne is dedicated helping those in ‘knead’ – donating more than 1,000 safe, hot meals to the Agape Outreach Inc. – a local, not-for-profit organisation that provides meals and support to those experiencing homelessness in the Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Byron and Tweed Shire region.
As part of Domino’s new community based program ‘Feed the Knead’, which aims to provide localised support in the form of free pizza, Ms Horne is proud to donate 20 safe, hot meals to the organisation every week.
Ms Horne said Domino’s Tugun started to make weekly donations to the Agape Outreach Inc. in November 2019, helping to feed more than 80 community members experiencing financial stress, homelessness or lacking basic necessities.
“As a small business owner, I understand it is a privilege to be able to operate and safely feed those in the community during this time.
“That is why we are doing everything possible to live up to that privilege and to return the support that our community has so generously shown us,” Ms Horne said.
“Our weekly donations to the Agape Outreach Inc. started more than one year ago when I met the organisation’s incredible founder, Theresa Mitchell.
“We started making donations of 20 pizzas every week, but as the demand for access to safe, hot meals increased within the community during COVID-19 in early March, I knew we needed more help.
“Together, with the support of Domino’s Palm Beach, we were able to double the size of our donations to more than 40 meals every week – helping to provide more than 1,000 piping hot pizzas to those in need over the past year.
“I feel very lucky to get involved with vital support services such as the Agape Outreach Inc. who are providing important relief and support to those most at risk in our community.
“Together, we have helped to provide reliable access to safe, hot meals for many in the Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Byron and Tweed Shire region and beyond during an incredibly challenging time.
“I have enjoyed joining Theresa and the team on the road where I can, volunteering to help personally serve those in need. It feels good to get involved to meet and chat to those in times of need and help to bring a smile to so many faces.
Ms Horne said Domino’s Tugun is committed to giving back to the community and will continue to donate to the Agape Outreach Inc.’s weekly food drives.
“During this challenging time, where some people may not know when or where their next paycheck is coming from, the offer of a hot meal is the least we can do to help.
“We know that pizza can’t solve all of the world’s problems, but it can bring a small slice of joy to a bad day, and in these times of extreme stress and uncertainty that’s never been more important.
“There is no doubt the pandemic has had a devastating impact on many people lives, and we want the local community to know we are in this together,” Ms Horne said.
Agape Outreach Inc. founder Theresa Mitchell said she was grateful for Domino’s Tugun and Palm Beach ongoing support.
“I would like to sincerely thank Domino’s for their commitment to supporting the Agape Outreach Inc. on our mission to make the world a home for everyone, and the people in it our family.
“Together, we are taking one small step at a time to cause a ripple effect of change!” Ms Mitchell said.
“The Agape Outreach Inc. is proud to support the local community with access to weekly hot meals, food hampers, training to basic life skills and housing. Thank you to Alyson and the team at Domino’s Tugun and Palm Beach for playing their part in helping us bring these efforts to life.”
