THAT’S HOT: Domino’s opens new innovation concept store and first global Discovery Centre in Brisbane

Today, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Ltd (DPE) is proud to celebrate the opening of its new innovation concept store – Domino’s Hamilton.

Recognised as the first store within DPE’s global network of 3,700+ that’s layout has been designed and optimised using advanced mathematical modelling, Domino’s Hamilton’s operations and order flow has been streamlined to save up to 20 seconds per order.

The result? Local Hamilton customers can now enjoy hotter, fresher slices of their favourite Domino’s pizza.

Domino’s ANZ Chief Executive Officer David Burness said the new optimised store layout was a win for the Company and its customers.

“Using advanced mathematical modelling and computer simulation software, we were able to build a virtual representation of the Hamilton store to test different layouts and concepts,” he said.

“By feeding in all of the relevant operational data, including order volumes, staffing levels and projected delivery times, and testing the placement of store equipment like ovens, makelines and hot boxes, we were able to design a store layout that streamlined operations and order flow, saving up to 20 seconds per order!

“As the original Delivery Experts with more than 60 years of experience, we understand that every seconds counts – especially when delivering Hot & Fresh Domino’s pizza. This is a great win not only for our business, but for our local customers too,” he said.

The new innovation concept store also features new electric ovens, data projectors to display makeline and customer order screens, and a new concept ‘pizza locker’ dispatch station.

“Domino’s Hamilton has been built with 12 individual lockers that open two-ways, with a special driver sign out screen,” Mr Burness explained.

“Each of these lockers open from inside for team members to load orders into the locker, and also from the outside, where our Delivery Experts can collect orders for delivery.

“The idea behind this concept is that Delivery Experts can collect orders from the locker and sign out for delivery without ever having to re-enter the store – shaving precious seconds off the delivery process, and leading to faster delivery times for our customers.

Domino’s Hamilton also includes electric ovens, a step forward in line with the Company’s Domino’s for Good approach that outlines all Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives and commitment to improved sustainability.

“One of our core values is ‘doing the right thing, because it is the right thing to do’ and so we are excited about the concept of trialling new electric ovens in Domino’s stores to monitor its results,” said Mr Burness.

But the ‘grate’ news doesn’t stop there.

Located inside Domino’s Hamilton is DPE’s first ever global Domino’s Discovery Centre.

LOOKING FOR A SIGN? Domino’s Discovery Centre is just to the left…

A year in the making, Domino's Discovery Centre takes customers through the decades of Domino's 60 year long history from its origin in Ypsilanti, Michigan by Mr Tom Monaghan; through to Silvio's Dial-a-Pizza in Australia in 1993; to the creation of DPE in 1995 when the two brands merged together and rebranded as Domino's; and finally to the global business customers know DPE as today, operating across 13 markets.

Within Domino’s Discovery Centre, customers can be wowed by Domino's memorabilia from the 80's, 90's and through the early 00's with historical uniforms, hats, trophies, pins, name badges, menus, advertisements, logos and more.

Mr Burness said the opening of the Discovery Centre was a milestone achievement worth celebrating.

“As a business with strong ties to Queensland, we feel incredibly proud to welcome customers through the doors of our first ever global Discovery Centre to learn more about our rich history – much of which started right here, in the Sunshine State!

“Can you believe the first ever Domino’s store to open in Australia actually opened just down the road in Springwood, Queensland more than 40 years ago in 1983? It’s fun facts and ‘cheesy’ pieces of history like this that we are excited to share with our pizza loving customers,” he said.

‘Knead’ to know more?

Domino’s Hamilton and the Discovery Centre is open from 11:00am daily, and is located at T09 Ground Floor, Hamilton Harbour, 485 Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton, Queensland.
