A pizza store manager and an artist – all rolled into one!
Meet Brandy Bayntun, the Store Manager of Domino’s Toowong in Brisbane.
She is a huge believer in empowering women and is focused on guiding her team and store from strength to strength – while having a lot of fun along with way!
Get to know one of Domino’s shining stars as we speak to Brandy about her personal and professional goals for 2021, what she loves most about her role at Domino’s, and most importantly, her dream pizza creation!
Growing up in Bundaberg, Queensland, Brandy was blessed with (in her own words) “the best mother ever” and was taught from a young age about being a strong, independent woman.
“My mum played the role of mum and dad, and she instilled in me to not let society stop me from being myself, to dress how I want, and to let me creative imagination run wild,” said Brandy.
In 2015, Brandy moved to Brisbane to study a graphic design degree at the Queensland University of Technology, but after three years, Domino’s was calling her name.
“I left my graphic design studies to pursue a career in pizza – and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!”
Brandy’s first role at Domino’s was as a Delivery Expert at the Spring Hill store in 2017, before becoming a Shift Runner in 2018 and moving to Domino’s Fortitude Valley.
“When the Toowong store opened in late 2019, I took on the role of Assistant Manager, and then in January 2021, became the Store Manager. It will be four years in September since I joined the Domino’s family!” said Brandy.
In her role as Store Manager of Domino’s Toowong, Brandy likes to get in early ahead of opening and create a game plan for the day.
“I like to find ways to make games out of our daily tasks, which I think makes the day really enjoyable for the team.
“At Toowong, we have a little game to see how many 100% pizzas we can get each day as rated by DOM Pizza Checker, which is a world-first smart scanner which checks the quality of every pizza before it leaves our store,” adds Brandy.
When asked about her favourite aspect of her Store Manager role, Brandy said, “I love every part of my job, but at the top of my list is interacting with customers, and getting involved with the local community.”
During her time at Domino’s there have been a number of career highlights for Brandy.
“Most recently, my highlight is being promoted to Domino’s Toowong Store Manager! However, I also can’t forget about the ‘pay it forward’ program I started at the Fortitude Valley store, and the Share the Slice initiative we started for the local hospital at Christmas.”
In 2021, Brandy is looking to create a tight knit team at her store and introduce a culture that reflects the kind and generous nature of their customers.
While Brandy was already a much loved member of the Domino’s family, in 2020 she became famous across the business for her incredible pizza box artwork during Brisbane’s COVID lockdown.
“I love drawing, memes, and popular culture. I thought that if I love these things and would enjoy a pizza delivered with a meme drawn on the box, then surely others would too.
“During the peak of the COVID lockdown in Brisbane, everyone was feeling down, and our normal way of life was turned on its head.
“At Domino’s, because we were privileged to continue operating, we had an opportunity to make people smile, and to spread joy to help lift the spirits of those in our local community. So that’s what we did with those artworks.”
A true Dominoid, Brandy’s favourite pizza is the Domino’s Fire Breather or a Pepperoni with mushrooms and olives.
And who might Brandy share that pizza with?
“If I could share a pizza with anyone, it would be my mum or Harry Styles. Definitely Harry Styles! Or maybe Elton John? It’s hard to choose!”
Be sure to pop into Domino’s Toowong and say hi to Brandy – you might even receive your very own pizza box drawing!
